Here’s the #1 thing I look for in wedding day photo locations

There's one thing that will make all the difference when it comes to choosing the best locations for your portraits—lighting.
You could be in front of the most beautiful backdrop you’ve ever seen, but if the light is spotty or harsh, there’s a good chance that you won’t like how you look.

When it comes to outdoor photo locations, here’s what I’m looking for:

  • If the sun is still high in the sky, I’m looking for an area with nice open shade so that the light will fall evenly across everyone in the photo (I’m trying to avoid spotty light).

  • If we don’t have open shade, I’ll usually try to position you with the sun somewhere behind you so that your faces are naturally in the shade and evenly lit.  You might see me squinting or moving around looking for the perfect angle to get you in great light without catching the sun in my lens.

I hope this helps you to get a little glimpse into what’s going through my head as I place you in different locations on your wedding day. Know that you can trust me to find the right locations and angles to make you look awesome.
