The Foundations of Posing for Your Wedding Day (Atlanta Bride Guide)

Posing is an art.

And honestly… it’s something a lot of couples feel nervous about.

You might be thinking:

  • “What do I do with my hands?”

  • “Will this feel awkward?”

  • “What if we look stiff?”

Here’s the good news:

You don’t need to know how to pose.

That’s my job.

But understanding a few simple foundations can help you feel more confident, relaxed, and natural in front of the camera—especially on your wedding day in Atlanta.

What Great Posing Actually Looks Like

It’s:

  • Natural

  • Intentional

  • Built around how you move and connect

I don’t memorize poses—I build them around you.

But these are the foundations behind every beautiful image.

1. The “Imaginary String” (Posture Without Stiffness)

Think of a string gently pulling you up from the top of your head.

This helps you:

  • Keep your spine straight

  • Maintain a natural curve in your lower back

  • Avoid looking slouched or tense

The goal isn’t stiffness—it’s effortless posture.

2. Shoulders Back (Just a Little)

A small adjustment makes a big difference.

Gently roll your shoulders back about an inch to:

  • Open up your posture

  • Create a more confident, elegant look

  • Avoid a hunched or closed-off appearance

3. Uneven Weight Distribution

This is one of the biggest secrets to natural posing.

If your weight is evenly distributed, your pose can feel stiff.

Instead:

  • Shift weight onto one leg

  • Slightly cross one leg over the other

  • Relax into your stance

This creates movement and softness instantly.

What About Hands & Arms?

This is where most people feel unsure—but it’s also where posing comes to life.

4. Give Your Hands Something to Do

Hands should never feel lost.

You can:

  • Hold your bouquet

  • Rest a hand on your waist

  • Gently touch your partner

This creates intention and keeps everything looking natural.

5. Create Soft Angles (Not 90°)

Sharp angles can feel rigid.

Instead:

  • Keep a soft bend in your elbows

  • Aim for angles slightly wider than 90°

This creates a more elegant, relaxed look.

6. Avoid the “Floating Head”

This happens when:

  • A close-up is taken

  • But there’s no connection to hands, arms, or body

The result feels disconnected.

Instead, we use:

  • Hands

  • Fingers

  • Subtle movement

To frame your face and guide attention naturally.

7. Posing the Eyes (Yes, It Matters)

Where you look changes everything.

  • Looking at each other → connection + emotion

  • Looking down → soft, candid feel

  • Looking at the camera → confident, timeless

One key detail:

👉 Avoid showing too much of the whites of your eyes

I’m always watching for this and will guide you in the moment.

A Final Thought

You don’t need to memorize any of this.

On your wedding day, I’ll guide you every step of the way—
so nothing feels forced, awkward, or overly posed.

My goal is simple:

To help you feel comfortable enough to be yourselves…
and create images that feel natural, emotional, and true.
